Green tea is now not just a drink, especially after numerous studies showing its benefits for health. The newest is the efficacy of green tea to protect eyes from disease glaucoma and other eye disorders.
Based on the analysis made by the researchers note, catechins, the main antioxidant in green tea, is effective to maintain eye health. Catechins contain vitamins C, E, lutein, and zeaxanthin. Tests on mice in the laboratory showed these antioxidants can be absorbed by the lens, retina, and other tissues of the eye.
The ability of catechins in reducing oxidative substances that suppress can last up to 20 hours. "It can be concluded that green tea consumption can help the eye against oxidative substances and free radicals," said Chi Pui Pang, eye experts from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Eye Hospital.
The results of this study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Unfortunately, not yet clear exactly how green tea can wander into the lining of the digestive system of the eye.
